LEWAC Associates of Western New York, the Wellness Family Practice and the Tune Up 4 Life Men’s health program have become an essential part of Buffalo area communities and Western New York. Known for providing health and lifestyle education services and outreach to traditionally underserved populations, LEWAC continues to be recognized as a positive entity in the area. LEWAC receives press coverage from local media for its continued, quality service to underserved communities in Western New York.
Grants Awarded
June 2008 - New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) Cancer Services
Community-Based Breast Cancer Education, Counseling, Outreach and Support Services - $39,000. This is a five year program.
- Funding from the NYSDOH, allows LEWAC to provide breast cancer education and support seminars at various community locations throughout Buffalo, NY.
April 2008 - Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Western
New York Affiliate - $30,000
- "A Pink Carnation Because You're Worth It" free mammogram and
early detection program.
June 2003 - Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Western
New York Affiliate - $17,000
- Used to fund a series of breast health awareness workshops in each of six East Side Buffalo area churches.
2001-2003 John R. Oishei Foundation
For three years (2001 through 2003), LEWAC’s health education program was funded by a $450,000 grant from the John R. Oishei Foundation. With funding from the Oishei Foundation, LEWAC accomplished the following:
- Implemented an exercise, nutrition, and clinical education program in 10 East Side neighborhood churches and community centers; participants learned how to prevent or manage such debilitating health conditions as asthma, diabetes, hypertension and heart disease
- Developed and implemented a client information database; pre and post testing tools; and workshop evaluation surveys
- Designed and implemented an outcomes measurement process utilizing the services of a professional program evaluator, Dr. Carlos Crespo, Associate Professor at State University of New York at Buffalo.
